Van der Vossen was born in Haarlem in 1893.
Although Van der Vossen was modest with regard to his own work, he was involved in almost all the important events of the Vrij Beelden and Creatie groups in the Netherlands. Since 1947 he produced abstract art that varied from strictly geometric to abstract expressionist. His oeuvre is multifaceted.
In 1950, together with Willy Boers, among others, he established the Creatie group. Shortly after the war he was influenced by Klee and Kandinsky. Oils, gouaches and collages, in particular geometric and later also in tactile forms. Van der Vossen had many exhibitions in Paris in, among other places, the
Salon Réalités Nouvelles, The Hague, Brussels and Amsterdam.
He died in Overveen in 1963.
